In A Separate Peace, who do you think confides in who?

There's a hero and then someone who confides in them. Who would be considered the hero of this story and who is the confidant of the hero?

You know I think that Gene is the protagonist. Finny and Gene are both confidants. The big theme in this story is that these guys are so emotionally dependant on each other that they almost become the same person. They loose their own identities. They confide in each other in a really dysfunctional co-dependant way.
