Gene stops in Boston and goes to Finny's house to see how he is doing. This visit disturbs Gene, because Finny seems weak, and like an invalid; he is not used to seeing his friend in such proper, manicured surroundings, and he feels that he won't be able to talk to Finny about the accident in such a place.
