This play was first produced in 1959. To what extent do you think the issues and problems portrayed in the play are still relevant today?

Poverty and race are still present in American life. I'm not going into statistics but black Americans suffer a disproportionate amount of hardships, poverty and crime. THere is often a matriarch within the family that keeps it intact regardless of overwhelming odds. There are so many stories to be told.
