According to the play, a woman's role takes on many definitions...... her role is to care for the family, worry about the family, provide the family with strength and guidance, and most importantly dream about what could be. The three women in the play all have different dreams. Mama dreams of the home she never had. Ruth, like Mama wants a home for her son..... a safe place to raise her family, but most of all..... she is tired of being tired. Beneatha, on the other hand, isn't interested in comfortable domesticity...... she is looking for opportunity, equality, and respect. All in all, we can see that the setting of the play directs these dreams. The world is changing, as are the roles of women.
