The author begins the book with very graphic descriptions in Chapters 1 and 2 of the events around him. Especially at the beginning of Chapter 2-he describes a very bloody scene before him. Why do you think the author chooses to include these descriptions in his story?

I think the author wants to quickly acclimatise the reader to what they will be experiencing in the book. He wants to give them context as well as understand the unforgiving world that Beah was born into.
