A Long Way Gone

I would say the turning point is when Ishmael is taken from the government forces to the UNICEF camp. This is where Ishmael must begin to reconcile his past with his future. He must figure out how to become a functioning human being again. So many years as a child soldier had scarred him in every way possible.
