3. Once Ishmael becomes a soldier in the army he comes to believe that the rebels are evil and everything he does in the war is justified. Does this seem to actually be the case, or are the army and the rebels more alike than they are different?

The army and the rebels are more alike than different. They each have self-serving purposes and get what they want through inflicting unspeakable violence. They both indoctrinate boys to fight.
