A Long Walk to Water

in each chapter untill the last, the story was structured in 2 different time periods. why?

Salva and nya meet in 2009, but every chapter leading to this, the two stories are in 2 different time periods

Nya and Salva's stories begin in the same place in different years.... in the end, their stories become one. The novel is set up to reflect the challenges faced by both characters.... to tell each of their stories, which eventually connect.
