A Lesson Before Dying

How did Grant view education and its ability to help the black community? How do his views change during the course of the novel?

I am not sure exactly of the answer to this question

Grant became increasingly disillusioned with education. He saw no way out for his black students. They would remain subjugated no matter how much they learned from him. They used a church as a school and did not have any supplies.
