Norahas kept secrets from Torvald and "masquerades as the dutiful wife. She has been playing a role. This is reinforced through Torvald's use of dehumanizing nicknames, "squanderbird" and "little squirrel.". Nora is reaching the point where she will throw off her own costume or masquerade and confront Torvald as an equal. This confrontation will, in essence, tear their marriage into a million pieces.
