In what ways does Tonvald's (Helmer's) occupation provide insight to his character?

Torvald is a bank manager. Thus, he's expected to have his own finances in order...... as well as his family. Torvald's life is under a microscope because at this point in time, bankers were judged not only by their ability, but by appearances and morality as well.
