When he goes to the window to see if the sun has disappeared forever and decides that it has not, what makes his initial response comic?

Scrooge is acting so out of character that his response is very comic. Once he finds that he is alive and has a chance to avoid the mistakes he saw with the Christmas Present and Future, he laughs hysterically.
