Ebenezer Scrooge, the protagonist, is a cold, miserly creditor. Initially it is greed and a sense of isolation that motivate him. Scrooge however is a truly dynamic character. By the end of the play, he is motivated by love, humanity, redemption, and the spirit of Christmas.
