How does Dave feel about life in America?

America is Dave's chance for a new life and redemption from the past. Joining the American Air force gives David a sense of accomplishment and belonging. His son is a symbol of this new belonging. His son Stephen is an opportunity to provide everything his mother and his father did not: support, courage, love, care, and praise, things necessary for a child's well- being.
