Ampleforth is a poet who is supposed to turn great works of poetry into Newspeak. By definition this is a nonsensical job. Poetry is about self-expression and Newspeak is about mass communication. In any case, Ampleforth used the word God in a poem. The party hates any idea or entity that can be interpreted above their own. Ampleforth wanted a rhyming word with "rod".
