Airstrip One is London's alternate reality. It exists as a former London to give the reader some bearings. Air Strip one, in itself, represents the ironic dystopian wasteland that was once the hub of culture and intellectual expression.

Aistrip one was aquired to london because if " the party" had allowed everything to stay as it was then people could be riminded of the past. The word london could act like a psycological trigger that would in return allow memories to resurface and undo the brain washing of the party.
