Winston is watching the heavy set Prole woman singing her song and hanging laundry. Winston finds her beautiful in that she has had so much hardship yet continues to sing, she sings because she is free. Winston realizes that freedom lies in the hands of the Proles. He realizes that, "The future belonged to the proles".
