ABC News Anchorman Peter Jennings once said, "Whoever controls the media controls reality." Do you agree? Do we believe the news we read and see on television? Can the news media be used to manipulate us? Explain if possible

As a people we are all very controlled by the media if we always accept it at face value.  If we do not question, research, and find what the truth may be or the bias of the news media may be, we are subject to the whims of the news media.  News can be used to manipulate people who often become complacent toward news men they believe to be credible.

This is a pretty involved question. In short, yes the masses generally do believe the media. Generally the less educated a person is, the less critical people are. We are saturated by news purporting the truth. Most news outlets have a bias to them. Fox news, for example, tends to pander to the right of center ideology while John Stewart might view the world more liberally. The media is often uses information as a commodity. They tell us things to sell us things. We are frequently manipulated into believing we need a certain car or T.V to validate our very existence.
