The mood is actually dictated by the setting. The very cramped quarters and heat of the room the men have gathered in to deliberate creates a bit of tension that grows throughout until eventually it boils over.

Everyone believes it to be an open shut case from the get go..... except for that one juror who amzaingly brings the experiences of all into that little room.
