Climax

The climax comes when Theodore and his family help Bobby, an illegal immigrant, to acquire legal residency status. When Bobby becomes a legal migrant, he testifies against Pete Duffy, and the judge sentences him due to adequate evidence that he killed his wife.

Foreshadowing

The successful career of Theodore’s parents as lawyers foreshadowed his ambitions to become a successful lawyer, thus, getting an opportunity to master every aspect of law at a young age.

Understatement

There is an understatement when the author depicts Theodore as a young kid who can only advise fellow children on matters concerning. However, Theodore intervenes in Duffy's murder and helps to provide reliable evidence showing that Duffy is guilty.

Allusions

The story alludes to Ruth Bader Ginsburg's "Little Golden Story" which shows how she wanted to be a lawyer from a young age. The events in Ruth Bader's story are a replica of Theodore's ambitions.

Imagery

The description of the courthouse depicts a sense of sight. The narrator says, “The courthouse was the largest building in downtown Strattenburg. It sat majestically on the north side of Main Street, halfway between a bridge and a park filled with gazebos."

Paradox

Theodore is a young boy, but comprehends everything in law despite not attending any law school.

Parallelism

There is a parallelism between Theodore's mastery of law and his parents' background in law. Theodore's parents are excellent lawyers.
