Students may respond that the plan was not wise, but it may have been the only one they could come up with in the short amount of time they had. The Homestead building was the only one to house everyone, and they could create barricades at the doors and windows to try to keep the Grievers out. It did seem that they wanted to hide in the Homestead, rather than to wait and fight. The Gladers were all fairly inexperienced with facing the Grievers, so, in the best interest of everyone, it seems hiding together...
