    Injun Joe's desire for revenge is mentioned several times in today's readings. Explain how the theme of revenge provides the action for the plot.

    One of Injun Joe's primary motivations is the desire for revenge. Revenge against the doctor was the primary motivation for his murder, and since Injun Joe is driven to get revenge on the Widow Douglass, it is very plausible that he will kill her.

    His desire for revenge is the only reason he has stayed in the area, allowing the plot to develop. If he had left the region, he, and his treasure, would have escaped.
