Chapter 6 - Alkyl Halides: Nucleophilic Substitution and Elimination - Study Problems - Page 280: 6-47 a

Answer

The substrate can be 2-bromopropane and the nucleophile can be ethoxide. Alternatively, the substrate can be isopropoxide and the nucleophile can be ethyl bromide. Both occur through SN2. The 2nd reaction is better because the substrate is a primary alkyl halide while the substrate in the 1st reaction is secondary.
