Answer

Tendons, ligaments and bursae are accessory structures associated with joints: 1. Tendons are strips of tough collagenous tissue which attach muscles to bones. Probably their most important function is to stabilize joints. They also have an equally important role of transmitting muscle tension to bones in order to effect movement. 2. Ligaments connect bone to bone. They are also composed of tough collagen fibers

3. Bursae. A bursa is a fibrous sac filled with synovial fluid. Bursae are found in the following locations: where a tendon passes over a bone ; between adjacent muscles, and between bone and skin. Bursae have several functions : provide cushioning for muscles; helping tendons slide more easily over joints, and modifying the direction of the pull of muscles. 4. Tendon sheaths: These are essentially elongated bursae that wrap around tendons and facilitate back and forth movements, especially in tight spaces such as those in the wrists and ankle.s
