Sight Imagery

The description of Rosewater city depicts the sense of sight to readers. The narrator is on the fifteenth floor. He can see what is happening in the town to paint a picture for readers of what is happening. The narrator says: "In my seat by the window, I can see, but not hear, the city. This high above Rosewater, everything seems orderly. Blocks, roads, streets, and traffic curve sluggishly around the dome. I can even see the cathedral from here. The window is to my left, and I'm on one end of an oval table with four other contractors." The narrator's description helps create images for the reader to see what is taking place in the city, from heavy traffic, block carvings, and the construction of the dome structure. Above the narrator, the sky is blue with a white cloud.

Hearing imagery

While working at the bank to prevent and repel sensitives from stealing customers’ data, the narrator and fellow contractors read silently about working instructions. Others are heard reading loudly, but that does not bother Kaaro. Kaaro says, 'The text of Plato's The Republic scrolls slowly and steadily in ghostly, holographic figures on the cylindrical display. I start to read, as do the others, some silently, others out loud. We enter the xenosphere and set up the bank's firewall." The imagery aids readers in hearing what is being read by the contractors. Kaaro and fellow contractors read classics purposely to flood the xenosphere with extraneous words and thoughts that confuse sensitives from getting the exact details of bank customers.

The crowd around the dome

The narrator describes what events are happening around the dome structure to create a visual image for readers. People are around the dome because they want to know more about it. However, the police are on standby and ready to shoot anyone closer to the dome because that is not allowed. There are press people ready to take videos and pictures. Similarly, scientists are around to comprehend the mysteries of the dome, especially its ability to heal and resurrect people. The narrator says, "I see the press, filming, correspondents talking into microphones. Here and there are lay scientists with big scanners pointed finger-like towards the dome. Skeptics, true believers, in-between, all represented, all busy." The description paints an image of the events occurring around the dome.
