Office Space Background

Office Space Background

Office Space was written and directed by Mike Judge who also created Beavis and Butt-Head and Silicon Valley. The film premiered in 1999 and was released by 20th Century Fox. Though it was not a major success finanically at the box office, the film would go on to become a cult film classic.

Judge's feature film is based off of four short films that he created based on the character Milton. The shorts would go on to appear on MTV's Liquid Television, Comedy Central's Night After Night with Allan Havey and also appear on Saturday Night Live. He created the short films based on a temp job he had alphabetizing purchase orders in the 1980s. Judge would go on to create a feature length version of the shorts to expand upon what he saw as an 'overachiever yuppie thing' where cities were also being turned into office parks which seemed to resemble one another. The film went on to gross $12,827,810 globally and became a success in selling six million copies of the film once released on home video. Office Space would go on to modestly approving critical reviews.
