Day 4 - Reading Assignment, Questions, Vocabulary

Students read Part IV.

Daily Lesson Objectives

  • • Reading well: appreciating the next “scene” or “stage setting” in the drama, which features less action but positions the characters for the upcoming climax.

    • Thinking well: using the discussion questions and analysis of character interactions to identify the themes of loneliness and inequality in seemingly dissimilar characters.

    • Speaking well: developing oral skills through vocabulary development, debate, and group discussion.

    • Listening well: developing a taste for good grammar and strong diction by closely examining other students’ representations of these characters and evaluating oral arguments in the classroom activities.

    • Writing well: creating and sustaining an argument, using evidence, in essay form.

    • Understanding: seeing how themes of social inequality (particularly race and gender), loneliness, and unfulfilled dreams, friendship, place, and fate are highlighted in this relatively expository chapter that features little drama.
