Knife of Dreams Background

Knife of Dreams Background

Knife of Dreams is an epic fantasy novel by American author James Oliver Rigney, famously known as Robert Jordan. It is the eleventh novel in the popular Wheel of Time series, which consists of 14 titles. Published by Tor Fantasy and Orbit books in 2005, it was the last book Jordan wrote entirely before he died. Thereafter, Brandon Sanderson took over the series' completion based on Jordan's direction.

The title teases the imminent battle where Rand Al'Thor must face the Dark One. Before he does so, he must acquire certain elements and make alliances that will guarantee his victory.

The novel naturally became a New York Bestseller, like the other titles in the series. It was preceded by Cross of Twilight and followed by The Gathering Storm. The cover art was designed by illustrator Darrell Sweet, known for designing covers for fantasy and science fiction novels. It features Perrin and Gerard Aybara, Gaul, and Aes Sedai keenly looking at a map laid out on the table.

Before the publication of the novel, a prologue to it was released electronically titled Embers Falling on Dry Grass. It was published by Simon and Schuster. Knife of Dreams was nominated for the 2006 Locus Award Nominee for Best Fantasy Novel.
