Jackie and Me Metaphors and Similes

Jackie and Me Metaphors and Similes

Clamping on like aviator's goggles

To describe Nina’s elegance, the narrator compares her sunglasses to the aviator’s goggles. The narrator says, "The Nina Ricci sunglasses clamped on like aviator's goggles, the carriage nowhere more equestrian that when she stepped over the snoring, splayed drag queen”. Nina loves fashion and quickly adapts to changing trends. Jackie is attracted to Nina's stylishness, which also motivates her to upgrade her appearance before the public.

Leaning in like old conspirators

Jack and Jackie are in love and do not shy away from showing affection for each other in public. For instance, Jack and Jackie are seen leaning against each other whenever they walk, smiling and talking merrily. Jack says, "Just the two of us, leaning in like old conspirators, the years laughed away." The simile is paramount because it shows that Jack and Jackie are compatible and can make a great couple.

Gowns (Simile)

Jackie's perspective on a successful future is compared to gowns. The narrator says, "As for Jackie herself, well, at that time in her life, any number of opposed destinies were possible; she was just out of college, for Pete's sake, and she tried them all on, didn't she, like gowns." Jackie's future is bright because she is confident. After finishing college, she becomes successful because she pursues her goals with courage and determination.
