Michael Roanhorse
The main character of the novel, he is Melissa's grandfather. He is from Navajo tribe and the knowledge passed down to him by his grandmother will prove useful in the battle for his granddaughter.
Diana Logan
Diana is Melissa's English teacher in high school. Witnessing the girl's breakdown and disappearance, Diana takes it upon herself to search for the girl. Diana is skeptical when it comes to supernatural creatures, but accepts it at the end to be able to help Melissa.
Melissa Roanhorse
Melissa is a sixteen-year-old girl who gets forcefully dragged and manipulated into the world of vampires or eye killers. The search for her and her rescue are the main conflict of the novel.
Falke
Falke is an ancient vampire, Eye Killer, who kidnaps Melissa believing she is the reincarnation of the only love of his life. He is manipulative and embodiment of evil, who doesn't stop at anything to reach his goal.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth is said to be Falke's wife. She is almost completely vampire, with only little humanity left in her. At the end that humanity prevails, she becomes aware of the evil nature of vampires, and regrets becoming one.
Hanna
Hanna is the mistress of Falke. Just like him, she is the embodiment of evil, but unlike him her evil is literal and outwardly, while his is understated and manipulative.
