Zachary standing naked holding his child up is a metaphor for the opportunity one has to instill in his child values that will create a better life for him and the people in his community.
Bread
Zachary is unwilling to give the council reason to push Big Joey's radio business ahead of his bakery. This is a metaphor that Zachary desires to be successful at any cost as, if he doesn't do that for Big Joey, his wife will be told that he cheated on her.
Creature
The character of Creature is a metaphor for a man who is too afraid to stand up to Big Joey who has stolen his wife, that he accepts what has happened as 'okay.'
Dickie
Dickie Bird Halked was born in a bar. This is a metaphor for the fact that his mother drank while she was pregnant with him and led to fetal alcohol syndrome causing him to not be able to talk.
