Call of the Wild Lesson Plan

Relationship to Other Books

The Best Short Stories of Jack London and To Build a Fire and Other Stories can be used as reading companions to explore how themes in the story relate beyond animals to humans. In them, students will encounter similar themes and important parallels such as setting, narration, imagery, character and conflict.

White Fang can be used as a companion story to The Call of the Wild--it is similarly heavy on themes of wild instincts and nature.
