Students will be able to provide stories from their own experience about people or systems they feel undermine them or conflict with their sense of well-being. Engage students in a discussion about how they have been socialized to adhere to rules that they did not have a part in planning, and which make them feel as though they are not acting in their own interests.

Consider the themes of oppression, and ways in which oppression takes place in modern society. This will give the book a sense of relevance for students.
