    To understand the historical context of the book’s publication.

    Structure:

    George Orwell was a passionate advocate for social equality. At the time that Animal Farm was conceived and written, Europe was experiencing much turmoil: the rise of Nazism in Germany threatened to engulf Europe, Socialists were fighting Fascists in the Spanish Civil War, and the tyrannical regime of Joseph Stalin in Russia was beginning.
