A Clockwork Orange was a challenging novel even in its day, and its near-constant barrage of physical and sexual violence, from the protagonist's choice to rape young girls to the torture he undergoes at the hands of the state, may be difficult for students to read and engage with. Scaffold the readings carefully in your classroom, make deliberate decisions about when and how to use content warnings, and encourage students to use tools of critical analysis.
