What is the main conflict

The novel's main conflict is a direct result of Strayed's loss of her mother to cancer. Her inability to cope with this loss causes her to emotionally fall into a deep depression and physically become dependent upon drugs. Four years later, Strayed decides it's time to pull herself together and embarks on challenge of a lifetime.... a solo walk along the Pacific Coast Trail.
