One example of stylisic device can be found in Chapter Four. In this chapter, Ngugi formats the section like a child's excercise book. The dialogue is not narrated, but rather, scripted..... emphasizing the repetition that is required in order to learn a new language. As a result, the reader is able to empathize with and experience the things that Njoroge and Mwihaki are experiencing.
