Wayside School is Falling Down is a short story cycle novel and is made up of thirty separate short stories that are made to be read together as a coherent bunch.

Fundamentally, the novel tells three stories: the story of a new student called Benjamin Nushmutt, the story of a teacher called Miss Zarves, and the story of a teacher called Mrs. Jewls.
