Did Jasper was racist ? He was in confederate army during civil war and his behaviour in book was harsh .

Though Jasper did serve in the Conferderate Army, he is never portrayed as a racist character. He was simply a southern boy, who participated in the war in the South.... where he lived. The novel is not about the Civil War, nor is Jasper's part in the war glorified. This is, of course, my opinion.
