Why does Cole want to kill the Spirit Bear?

Cole cannot stand not being to control or manipulate another living being. Cole constantly needs to prove to himself that he is in control of anything that he encounters. The Spirit Bear, like nature, is indifferent to Cole's tantrums, manipulations, or frustration. Cole thus lashes out at the Bear.
