Cole has built up a lot of resentment to his parents. He is angered at his father's abuse and his mother's inaction in protecting him. Cole's anger spills over to his victim Peter. Cole cannot yet understand his own issues so he cannot understand Peter's emotional and physical pain. Cole uses his anger as an escape from dealing with his isolation and abuse.
