On Page 75, why does Jem want to get his pants from the Radley place?

Jem wants to get his pants so he doesn't get into trouble with his father. He won't tell him the truth, but he's willing to take the chance of retrieving his pants..... each has it own dangers, but only a child would take the chance of being shot at again over a spanking.
