Why are Atticus' morals/ethics so valuable to obtain? What is the significance?

Atticus has a strong sense of empathy and social responsibility. He is willing to risk his reputation and his job in order to do the right thing. Many of us believe in doing the right thing but few people are willing to sacrifice anything substantial in standing up for others.
