Mary, they're not talking about killing a mockingbird in a literal sense. Remember earlier in the book when the kids got air riffles for Christmas and they were told not "to kill a mockingbird" because all they do is make beautiful music and don't harm anything. That is Tom. He was a good hard working man who didn't do anything wrong, yet he was accused of a crime and ended up dying. So, he was "like" the mockingbird.

Mr. Tom robinson was a nice and respectful Man, who got sent to prison for getting accused of Raping a white girl honsetly he didnt, because the truth is her father has been the one Raping her. So he got sent to prison for something he did'nt do, and so then, Tom tried escaping from prison but as he ran hes been gettin shot nearly alot of times. Passed away as a "Innicent Black Man". thats not cool, all he did was help the Need and this is what he gets for a return.. justice woulda rather been rasicm then grown.

Yes, Christian, you did. I don't think you sounded racist. You were just relaying what the story said. And yes, people were really racist back then (some still are). There was a lot of resentment against blacks in the south back then. Like some whites resented the fact that blacks wanted their freedom (many of the people alive at this time would have been a live and remembered slavery).

Yes, Treivan, life can be unfair, but who ever said life was fair? You make some really good points by saying "just deal with it" because at the end of the day, that is all we can do. We can cry around about things being unfair or we can suck it up and do something about it. Good observations.

Yes, Angel, Tom was a respected and hard working man and he really got the raw end of the deal.

Well there really is alot to say about the book To Kill A Mockingbird..I've learned that long ago some towns or pretty much the whole U.S, blacks and whites were never allowed to be under the same roof, in the book To Kill A Mockingbird racism is taken seriously. The book To Kill A Mockingbird is mainly about a black man named Tom Robinson, accused of raping a white woman named Mayella. There was a rule for the town of Maycomb that if you were white or black you weren't allowed to see or be in contact with the opposite race. In the courtroom, Mayella was trying to prove Tom guilty of raping her, but I myself think Mayella is quilty. She was the one to commit a crime or break a rule, she let the lips of a black man meet with hers and what not. Tom was an innocent human being just like everyone else but a different color, his color made him quilty. After the case was closed he was put in prison. He wasn't there for long becuase of his almost escape. While he tried to escape he was shot a number of times, and thats how he died.....and idk what else to write.....

I've learned that if you shoot a mockingbird, you'll get thrown in jail and that you'll hafta pay alot of money just cause you shoot a mockingbird . And that you shant do that cause you'd hafta pay alot of money.
