How is racism shown in the novel?

One example of racism in the novel is the immediate arrest, prosecution, and verdict in the case of Tom Robinson. He was a black man accused of rape. Nothing he did could have saved him from the all white jury and the verdict they rendered. Atticus made people think, but he couldn't open their minds.
