Atticus is a widower. Jem and Scout grow up with a loving, attentive father, and they have Calpurnia to round out the family.
Dill has his mother..... no father. He stays with his aunt during the summers, and his mother doesn't seem to mind. Over the course of the story, however, Dill's mother remarries. Unlike the Finch children, Dill lacks a loving, attentive family.
