Why is Atticus so insistent about Jem's reading to Mrs. Dubose?
Mrs. Dubose is a dying woman, and Jem needs to make up for his actions in ruining her flowers. It was Mrs. Dubose that requested Jem read to her, and Atticus, understanding her physical condition wanted Jem to comply.
