Atticus gets a note which tells him that the children have not been home since noon. Mr. Underwood tells Atticus where the children really are (in the colored balcony) and their father tells them to go home and eat their evening meal. They beg to stay; he assures them they can return after their meal, even though he believes the trial and jury will be finished.
