A "scout" is a person who goes out to gather information and ask questions. As you can see in reading the novel, Scout's inquisitiveness shines through from the start. She questions, and questions, and then questions some more. Through Scout's character, Lee can speak to many of the issues of the day, and she can do it through the innocent words of a child.

Innocent child of who? "Scout"?
