Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)

In my opinion, outside of the travel, bonding with friends, and in between the often humorous anecdotals..... the author is saying that sometimes you're better off working through your worries rather than trying to forget them. Sometimes the cure is less desirable than the illness. In this case..... dry land and home are preferable to the adventure.
